PROGRAM
Monday, October 25 (5:00p – 6:30p): Fiscal Sponsorships: What They Are and What They Aren’t
Are you not a 501(c)(3) organization, but still want to collect donations or submit a grant application? Or have you ever been frustrated or confused by insurance requirements and cost barriers for small, grassroots organizations to perform work or do programming in a park? Or are you part of a 501(c)(3) organization that provides fiscal sponsorship but needs to learn more about the legal and financial complexities? Join Michael Jonas from Rational Unicorn Legal Services, Jim White from Nonprofit Association of Oregon and Matt Lokan from Bliss Sequoia Insurance and Risk Advisors for a conversation about fiscal sponsorship and insurance for grassroots organizations. During this workshop we will review the current issues and considerations including how to foster charitable giving without burdening grassroots organizations. Breakout sessions will focus on the future of fiscal sponsorships and how to strategize to find the best fiscal sponsor and insurance policies.
Tuesday, October 26 (5:15p – 6:30p): Parks and Houselessness: Building compassion and equity between all Portlanders
Join us for our Keynote with Commissioner Dan Ryan, the City of Portland Commissioner overseeing the Housing Bureau, the Joint Office of Homeless Services, among others. The humanitarian crisis of houselessness impacts people and parks throughout the city. Commissioner Ryan will share about the Safe Rest Villages initiative and his commitment to center compassion and equity in response.
This session will have ASL interpreters.
Date TBD (stay tuned!): Building Community Engagement with an Equity Lens
Organizations across the city are working to create greater accessibility and sense of safety in the outdoors for BIPOC communities and other historically underrepresented communities. But there is both internal and external work every organization must do to build successful relationships with these communities. This workshop focuses on how best to build successful partnerships with BIPOC organizations and the internal work required to meaningfully and effectively build these relationships. Breakout sessions will include one for organizations that are just starting the process and need to do the internal organizational work first and another session for organizations further along the equity journey and are ready to build successful partnerships with BIPOC communities.
Thursday, November 18 (5:00p - 6:30p): Investing in your Volunteers
Many parks friends and partner groups rely heavily, if not entirely, on volunteers. This workshop will explore strategies for volunteer recruitment and, most importantly, volunteer retention. Come ready to brainstorm active ways your organization can implement the strategies discussed as well as ways to overcome barriers to successful implementation. Larissa Gordon and Jaclyn Sisto-Lopez from SOLVE will guide you through this workshop. Larissa Gordon is SOLVE's Outreach and Communications Coordinator. She manages SOLVE's social media accounts and public relations, while also specializing in volunteer management, recruitment, and retention. Jaclyn Sisto-Lopez is SOLVE's Community Engagement Manager. Jaclyn specializes in creating long-lasting and sustainable partnerships with community stakeholders across Oregon.
*Day of Service events offer opportunities to get out and visit a new park either on your own or with other members of your park or partner group. It’s also a great way to connect and, ultimately, learn from other folks involved in our parks communities.
When you register for the event, you will register for the entire summit and receive individual zoom links for each workshop at the email you signed up for the summit with. You will also have the option to select a specific Day of Service site as part of your participation.
We recognize that financial costs are a barrier for some to participate. As a result we offer our friends and partner programming without a registration fee. 100% of your donations go towards future program development and are fully tax deductible.
